The power of positive thoughts

THE POWER OF

In a world where we’re surrounded by a constant flow of upsetting, unsettling and often terrifying news stories, it can be difficult to find a positive outlook each day. Obviously we all also have our own, often chaotic lives to juggle and it can be so easy to get wrapped up in the feeling of losing control. Personally, I struggle daily with the balance of bringing up 2 sassy strong minded girls with running my own business and I have to remind myself why it’s OK to struggle and why it’s so important to not give up. I have always counted myself as a fairly positive person, but as I get older I have come to realise that like most things, if you don’t practice something enough, you lose the ability to do it as well as you once may have.

When I first set out changing my career from a somewhat steady freelance job in graphic design, to pursue my passion for jewellery making, I kept falling into the black hole of self doubt and insecurity of imposter syndrome. Thanks to the awesome Jessica Rose of The Jewellers Academy, I learnt how important it is to be kind to ourselves and how mindset makes such a big difference to how we go about our days.

In general we speak to ourselves in a much harsher and more critical way than we would to anyone else… most of us wouldn’t dream of telling someone else they’re not good enough, or the work they produce isn’t as good as everyone else, yet we do it to ourselves daily. And we start believing our own negativity. It builds toxicity in our lives we really don’t need or deserve.

If this sounds familiar, read below for a few tips on how to help get back to finding your self belief again.

STEP 1

Write down all your negative thoughts about yourself that may be holding you back. Be honest with yourself and write these down over a couple of days. Any time a thought pops in your head which is critical or negative about yourself make a note. (For me, it was things like ‘I’ve spent too long working today and not enough quality time with my girls’, or ‘I’m not helping the family by spending my time learning how to make jewellery’).

STEP 2

Go through each negative thought and re-write it with a positive spin. Imagine your friend is talking to you and you’re trying to comfort and guide them through it.

‘I’m not helping the family by spending my time learning how to make jewellery’

becomes

‘I’m setting the best example to my daughters by showing the importance of continued learning and following your passion’

STEP 3

Record yourself reading each new positive thought and spend a few minutes each day listening back to them. Keep doing this over a couple of weeks and gradually you should start to notice a mindset shift.

I believe in the power of positive thoughts so much I’ve created my latest jewellery collection around it. The Positive Vibes collection is based around 4 quotes and symbols, each with a postive outlook.

STARS to remind us that our troubles are a speck of star dust in relation to the universe and even in our darkest times, there are always glimmers of light.

SUNSHINE to show us we are here to shine, stand out and create our own light.

RAINBOWS to remind us we sometimes have to endure bad weather as well as good, in order to produce the best outcome.

RAINDROPS to help us make the best of any given situation. Whilst it may put a stop to our plans, we can also choose to embrace it, dance in it, and use it as a source of growth and life.

To help you with your positive thinking, I have also put together a FREE positive affirmations printout which you can download here.

You just need to print and cut them out then either keep them with you, display them or hand them out to anyone you think will benefit from them. You could even create a positivity jar with them to make a lovely gift for a loved one. (There’s a tag included in the file you can also use on a jar along with some ‘blank’ cards to write your own positive thoughts).
