5 Big reasons to shop small

Living in a world where everything is available in an instant makes shopping small so important.

I too, am guilty of using the bigger/ mass produced companies when I'm late getting a present for someone or realise I suddenly need a princess costume for world book day. I always feel a pang of guilt when I do though especially when I had my eye on a beautiful hand-made doll or had intended to visit my local independent makers market. These top 5 reasons to shop small are a reminder to me as well as anyone else who's interested why we should all aim to shop small a little more often.

Small business owners are involved with the full process of production and demand more transparency in sustainable manufacturing. They are more mindful of using ethical, environmentally conscious, local suppliers for their raw materials.

Every sale makes the world of difference to the owner.

You really make a difference to someone’s day by supporting them. Each time you buy from a small handmade business the owner does an actual happy dance!

The pieces you buy will usually be limited edition, bespoke or one of a kind. Pieces are lovingly hand crafted by a real person using traditional skills (not mass produced in a factory!).

You are dealing directly with the owner/ creator which means you will have the best customer service experience. They are more likely to be readily available to answer any questions and provide extra information for you.

Small businesses often use other small, local businesses when sourcing materials which means there is a chain of local support which feeds back into the community.
